Breakfast Salad

People eat cold pizza for breakfast, why not a nice salad? It’s hard for many to get past the idea of a sweet breakfast. There’s nothing wrong with a hearty bowl of oatmeal or some eggs but why not try having a dinner like meal at the start of your day. You’ll get a great boost of energy from protein, kick start your digestion with fiber and alkalinize your system with minerals and phytonutrients. This will leave you less likely to crave sugary snacks at the office. And if you do indulge in a tea time treat you’ll at least know you started your day off right. I just discovered garlic sprouts – AMAZING! Had my salad and dressing all ready to go and some leftover turkey sausage. 2 seconds of prep left me plenty of time to type!

Here are a few more savoury breakfast ideas:

  • pesto sweet potato mash with steamed vegetables (e.g. kale, collards, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, zucchini) and hemp seeds
  • collard wraps
  • avocado on toast with steamed greens on the side (I love GF buckwheat chia bread by Organic Works)
  • smoked fish on toast with side of veg
  • vegetable miso soup (or any soup)
  • socca (chickpea flour crepe) with left over grilled vegetables
  • kichadi
